[4275] !Possible historical sketch: John Adam Eberhart Duke of Elsase [or Alsace] Germany. His four sons emigrated to America probably about 1690 [?]. Sons were: Andrew, George, Martin and Adolph !Apparently Martin L and Adolph came from Fredericktown, Maryland to New Geneva, Pa. to work at glass trade for Hon. Albert Gallatin, who was Sec. of the U.S. Treasury under President Jefferson and Madison [1801-1813]. The manufacture of glass had begun there about the year 1794. There is a tombstone at the Old Stone Church at New Geneva to M. Eberhart who died 1 April 1822, aged 43 years and 5 months. Also a tombstone to his wife, Elizabeth, who died 6 Jan. 1866, aged 81 years. Presumably this was the original 'Martin L." who came from Germany. Elizabeth Phillips father was Col. Theophilus Phillips and officer in the Revolutonary War and once visited [in 1784] by Geo. Washington. William was an adopted son -info. from Ora Kitt ? [where she got it is not known]

[4218] ! Alternate b. date for Sarah- 12 Mar. 1829 ? She is dtr of Adolf and Elizabeth Philips Ebeerhart. They moved to Iowa in 1865 and are both buried in Oskaloosa.
