[1036] EDWIN S. DIUGUID -- of Murray, was born in Calloway County, August 13, 1854. His father, William H. Diuguid, is a native of Virginia, and came to Calloway County with his parents in 1835; he is a cabinet-maker by trade and carried on business a number of years in Murray, but has given his attention more of late years to agricultural pursuits. His mother, Catherine Churchill, is a native of this State. [His parents'] union has been blessed with nine children of whom our subject is the fifth. The latter was reared on a farm, principally, and attended the district schools of the neighborhood, and after a years's course at the Murray Institute, taught school for a term of five months; for four years following he was employed as salesman by J. D. A. Hale of Murray, two years. With the money thus earned he was enabled to enter a business partnership with W. P. Garlin. The firm continued four years up to 1884, since which date Mr. Duiguid has been alone. He carries a large line of groceries, hardware, and general merchandise, and enjoys a flourishing trade. Mr. Duiguid is a deacon in the Christian Church, and is one of the trustees of the town. He married, December 9, 1879, Miss Lottie C. Scott, a native of Mississippi. [1048] Mrs. E. S. Diuguid Dies While Asleep Early Sunday A final tribute was paid to Mrs. Lottie Diuguid. one of Murray's oldest citizens, by many of her friends and friends of her family who attended her funeral at the First Christian Church at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. The rites were said by the Rev. E. B. Motley, former pastor of the church and the Rev. Harrywood Gray. Interment was in the city cemetery. Mrs. Diuguid died in the early hours of Sunday morning in her sleep, and was found by her daughter Mrs. Kate Kirk. "Miss Lottie," as she was fondly called. was 96 years of age. She was the widow of the late E. S. Diuguid Sr., pioneer furniture merchant of Murray, whose son, A. Diuguid, Jr., and grandson, Frank Diuguid continue in the business operation. She was a member of the First Christian Church for 65 years and before her illness was an active worker. She had been in declining health many years. Mrs. Diuguid leaves two daughters: Mrs. Kate Kirk, Mrs. Mary Tayler and one son, Ed Diuguid Jr. She also leaves five grandchildren. Mrs. Will Higgins Whitnell, Mrs. B. D. Hall, Mrs. James Mason, Ed Frank Kirk and Jim Ed Diuguid. Five great-grand-children also survive. Her grandsons and grandsons-in-law were pallbearers.

[10048] Thomas Phelps was a captain in Cromwell's army; went over to Ireland with him, settled in Limerick, where he came into possession of an estate, which remained in the family over one hundred and fourty years.... -- P&S page 21 ... in 1657 a conveyance of some land called "Aponer" was made by Major William Stratton to "Thomas Phelps", to whom in 1669 letters, patent,were granted by Charles II. -- P&S page 34 In about 1644, he removed to Limerick, Ireland to an estate aquired from Oliver Cromwell.
