[1777] Ezekiel Sanford was baptized at Much Hadham, Herts, England on 20 Feb 1586-86 as the eldest son of Thomas and Mary Sanford. He married Rose Warner in Hatfield. The town, modernly called Hatfield Broad Oak, is about six miles southeast of Much Hadham, over the county line into the shire of Essex. The records of baptisms, marriages and burials in this parish have been lost, prior to 1662, depriving all of the exact date of his marriage and the baptisms of his two eldest sons, Thomas and John, born between 1607 and 1612. It is unknown what his trade or occupation was. (Source: Thomas Sanford Genealogy; c., 1911, pp. 38-39)

[8295]

According to Celeste (Bremser) Meilinger while Henry and his wife Philippina were crossing the Atlantic Ocean, one of their children, a girl, died and had to be buried at sea. This child was the second oldest in the family.

Henry, Sr. had a flour mill in Germany. Kerry (Karl) Vande Vrede has the original trunk that they used while crossing the ocean. According to Bernice (Backhaus) Petri this was actually the Scheid trunk and has a small tear inside the cover. It was always stored in a "cubby hole" upstairs on the Backhaus homestead next to Lloyd's bedroom.

According to Angie (Bremser) Plzak, when she asked her Dad about the 50th Golden wedding anniversary picture and the exact date it was celebrated in 1902, he said that his grandparents said they must have been married about 50 years that summer so they all got the families together on August 5th of 1902. Angie's dad, Charles was 51 years old on that day.

[8278]

Newspaper article says that she died on January 7th and no year. The cemetery gravestone doesn't give a date at all and the West Bend courthouse death record shows January 13, 1917 (File #7370).

Her father's name was: Carl Schupp
Her mother's name was: Caroline Kress

[8378]

She was born approximately in 1853. Charles was born in 1851 and I assume that she had to be at least two years younger than Charles. All we know is that she was the second oldest child and died while they were crossing the Atlantic Ocean and had to be buried at sea.

[8273]

I have a copy of the obituary in my file.

[2083]

After her husband, Louis died Bertha never remarried and is now buried with her daughter Katie on a cemetery in Kewaskum on the East side of town.

[11421] Bertha, Lena and Katherine, the three daughters of Henry & PhilippinaBremser, dated three Habeck brothers. Lena dated and married OttoHabeck, Bertha dated and married Louis Habeck, Sr. and Katherine datedPaul Habeck. Paul Habeck worked on the railroad and one day he waskilled while working. This is the story that was told to Donald Habeckfrom his Grandma Bertha.

Katherine then dated and married Daniel Scheid.

When Katherine died, her daughter, Anna sewed a real pretty flannelnightgown for her mother to wear under her dress in the coffin so thatshe wouldn't get cold nights. This was a tradition in those days.

[6778]

Her full name was Anna Rosa Augusta Philippina Bremser but was known as Lena (apparently short for Philippina).
