[1021] I have always heard that our forefathers were originally French Huguenots who fled to Scotland from religious persecution and remained there until they called themselves Scots. Some time away back in seventeen hundred and (unknown) four Diuguid brothers came to America, two of them settled in Virginia, one in what is now Kentucky, and one in Georgia or Mississippi. the one from whom we are descended (I don't know his name) but I suppose William Diuguid.

William Diuguid, father of William Diuguid, our immigrant ancestor, married Jean Henry on 10 Oct. 1716 in Aberdeen, Scotland. Jean Henry was a daughter of Alexander Henry and his wife, Jean Robertson. Her two brothers were Col. John Henry and Rev. Patrick Henry who moved from Scotland to Hanover County, Va. John Henry was an educated man. He was county surveyor of Hanover, presiding magistrate, and Colonel of Militia. He married in 1734, Sarah Winston from England, widow of John Syme. She died in 1773. They were the parents of Patrick Henry. .Patrick Henry was born 29 May 1736 at Studley in Hanover Co., Va. He became the spokesman of the southern colonies in the stirring period that led to the Revolution. After the war, he aided in drawing up Virginia's state constitution in 1776 and was the first elected governor of the State of Virginia.
Our immigrant ancestor, William Diuguid, lived in their home in Hanover Co. when he first came to America. William Diuguid was a nephew of Col. John Henry and the Rev. Patrick Henry (uncle of Patrick Henry, the patriot) named above, since his mother, Jean Henry, was their sister. Patrick Henry and William Diuguid, the immigrants were first cousins.
After the death of William Diuguid, father of our immigrant ancestor, William Diuguid, Jean Henry (Diuguid) married second on 8 April 1726, Alexander Donald, a farmer from Skene Parish, Scotland. Since William Diuguid, the immigrant, was born in 1717 in Scotland, and his mother remarried in 1726, he lost his father sometime before his ninth birthday.
Jean Henry, mother of William Diuguid the immigrants along with her brothers, Rev. Patrick Henry and Col. John Henry, were the children of Alexander (Patrick) Henry and his wife, Jean Robertson. This Jean Robertson (Henry), grandmother of our immigrant ancestor, William Diuguid, had a brother living in what Is now Buckingham Co., Va., the Rev. William Robertson, the distinguished scholar, historian and divine. The Robertsons were descendants of the Duncans of Scotland and are said to have blood in their veins of John Knox (1505-1572), the leader of the Protestant Reformation in Scotland.
